Well, it has been a while since a post has found its way to this site and I apologize.
Ball hockey is well underway for the summer and Rita took some photos at our last game.
I am in the process of uploading them all (or at least the good ones). There are posted at lower res but if you like any I can send you a better quality one.
Can’t wait for the next game!

David took a hockey stick to the face last night.

He called me from the hospital and told me there was nothing to worry about. Of course I had to go down there because I started to pace. He was stitched up by a very nice Doctor-in-residence who was at least half of David’s age. We had a surreal conversation while he demonstrated his handiwork on David who lay sprawled on a stretcher in a hospital corridor. I watched a few bashed-in faces stumble past but, all in all, not too traumatic a visit to Chilliwack General. Poor boy can’t make facial expressions and/or raise his eyebrows without wincing. Ick.

It has been a while since we played a B division team. Thursday night we played hard and won 7-3.
Not too exciting a game as we dominated. Hope we play the same way in our next game. It is an A division team though so trying to not get hammered too badly.
Next game, Thursday, Nov 10, 9:00pm.

Well it turned out to be a good game. We were in it until early in the third period when they went into overdrive and scored many goals in a short period of time. It was only 1-0 for them after the first period.
They are an A-division team after all. Final score 5-2. Ryan scored both our goals in less than two minutes late in the third.
Our record stands at 2-3. Next game: Thursday 7:45.

Well, game 2 was a loss for us but we don’t feel bad because it was against the leading A division team and we did a lot better than last year. Game 3 was a win for us (5-3) even though I knocked the ball into our own net.

Well we did win last night to start the season on a positive note.
With 19 seconds left in the game we scored to make it a 5-4 victory.
Little bit of rust out there but we didn’t play too badly.
We will need a lot more luck on Sunday as we play an A division team.

Well, it looks like I am finally adding a new post to the blog.
A lot has happened since the last posting in April.
Our summer hockey was great. No rollerbladers. Lots of practise for the indoor season.
Our first game in the indoor league is tonight. So hopefully we won’t be too out of shape. I hear the team has changed a bit since last year what with retirements and new additions so we may need some time to gel.
The even bigger news is that I am engaged to my love, Rita, whom I had just met as the indoor season was ending. So, I had a busy and exciting summer.
I will try to be good and update on a more regular basis from now on.
Stayed tuned for hockey updates from the Hitmen.

Today the weather is great for the start of the outdoor ball hockey season.
Since this is the opening game I, of course, won’t be there as I am going to the Pacific International Auto show today.
Have fun shooting hard balls at each other and I will join you next week.

Ryan has sent in some pictures that everyone should see.

If anyone wants to submit their photos from the season please send them to monkofnee@yahoo.ca.

YEAH! the Hitmen win the B division playoffs.
After a tense 23 minutes that featured no scoring. Though, lots of chances both ways.
Our injured goalie came back to play and was outstanding.
Thanks go out to Dennis for putting together a great team this year.
Hopefully everyone will attend next Saturday’s league get together at the Vault.

A very unhappy game!
Our goalie was run and he hit the back of his neck against the crossbar. Went into shock and the ambulance was called. We all hope that he will be alright.
The game was called with 3 minutes left in the second. The game will continue on Thursday with a 23 minute third period.

That was the worst game we have played in a long time.
We really stunk the ag-rec centre up. I am not even going to mention the score. Just let me say that the game was called early due to the 10 point spread rule.
Joe took some photos so I will post those soon.
We will show up tomorrow at 7:30 and play for real.

The physical aspect of the game is heating up.
Last night there were two players ejected from the game.
We did win though, 6-3.
We don’t play until Sunday so that should give us some time to heal.

Well, that was a tough game!
Without the help of our new fans (Joe, Mel and Jim) we might not have won.
Final score: 4-3 in OT for us.
This could be a 5 game series.
Everyone was working hard but our new opponents are much bigger and tougher than our previous foes.
Could be a tough week as we play tomorrow and possibly Thursday.

Posted by David in Hockey03 Mar 2005 10:20 pm

So, tonight’s game ended with a score of 6-2 in our favour.
That means that the Hitmen won the first round of playoffs.
We start round 2 against the Green Hornets Sunday, 2:45.
It was an unusual start to the game however. The other team didn’t have a goalie so they played with 6 out.
I know it sounds easy to score on an empty net but with 6 guys against our 5 they had lots of passing room.
We ended up scoring 3 goals before the goalie arrived.
According to Dennis this is the furthest that the Hitmen have ever gone in the league.
The team will rest up and come out playing hard on Sunday.

Well, once again most of the team showed up. And those that did played hard.
We opened the scoring this time and held the lead the whole way.
Ended up 6-2. Craig scored just 8 seconds into one of our power plays to get us really pumped up.
The other team was getting a little mouthy when they couldn’t take our teams’ gentle ribbing.
Their fans were even worse. After the last whistle the ref was trying to get them to clear the “ice” and the fans stormed the in. So, the next game looks like it could be a physical affair.
I got Denny to take some “action shots” during the game and I will post them tomorrow.
Next game: Thursday 08:30.

Well, game two went much better than game one.
We actually showed up and played like a team. Didn’t hurt us that there fastest guy had a leg injury and there hardest shot was playing soccer instead.
Their goalie kept the score a lot closer than it should have been. The final score was 2-0.
Game three is tomorrow (Monday). Best of five series so stayed tuned.
Oh, Joe and I drove some balls at the range. I got a new set of clubs so had to break them in.
They seem much better so far.

Well, that was a bad start to the post season. We got so schooled last night. We decided to show up and start playing in the third period. At one point it was 9-0 but, we made a comeback and the final score was 10-5.
We will ride this momentum to win the next two games. Back to back games Sunday and Monday.
With the weather lately it shouldn’t be too long before we can start playing outside again.

Posted by David in Hockey18 Feb 2005 11:09 am

Well, we played our last regular season game last night.
Didn’t go as well as we had hoped. We got beaten 6-3.
With this loss it closes out our regular season record at 12 wins, 9 losses and 4 ties. Which means we had 28 points over 25 games. Yeah, we finished better than .500 and first place in the ‘B’ division.
The playoffs start on Thursday so stayed tuned to see how we do.
Looks like there might be another round of golf today. I won’t forget my putter this time.
